Abstract: 

In the world today, learning a second language is a requirement for academic and professional development. One of the basic needs in the field of research on language learning is the impact of classroom environment perceptions on motivation and self-efficacy in learning a second language. Self-efficacy and educational motivation are factors which are important in students' learning and educational improvement. The purpose of this study was to investigate the causal relationship between classroom environment perceptions and the students' motivation in learning a second language with the mediation of self-efficacy. The research population consisted of eleven-year-old female high school students of Mashhad. The research sample consisted of 409 students who were selected using cluster sampling method. To achieve the objectives of this study, three questionnaires, i. e., Arabic classroom environment perceptions, Arabic language learning self-efficacy questionnaire and Arabic language learning motivation questionnaire were designed by the researcher. Reliability and validity of the questionnaires were also verified. Pearson correlation coefficient, confirmatory and exploratory factor analysis, and structural equation model were used to analyze the data. The results of Pearson correlation showed that the motivational components of learning a second language are correlated with each other in a pairwise fashion (p <0. 001). By implementing a structural equation model to test the relationship between classroom environment perceptions and the motivation to learn a second language with mediation of the self-efficacy in language learning, it was found that the proposed model had appropriate fit and the motivation to learn Arabic language through classroom environment perceptions was predictable with self-efficacy mediation.

Abstract: 

The present research was done with the purpose of determining the effectiveness of training neurocognitive functions on the disposition of the first cycle secondary school students of Tabriz toward critical thinking. It was a quasi-experimental research with pre-test post-test control group design. The research population included all male students of the first cycle secondary schools of Tabriz during 2016-2017 academic year. The research sample was selected using multistage cluster sampling method. First, 10 schools were selected from among the first cycle secondary schools of Tabriz. Then, from among those 10 schools, just 2 schools were chosen. 30 students from one school were chosen as the experimental group and 30 other students were chosen from the other school as control group. The experimental group was taught neurocognitive functions on planning during 20 sessions, cognitive flexibility during 10 sessions, and reinforcement of working memory during 11 sessions. To collect data, Ricketts’ critical thinking disposition questionnaire was used. The data was analyzed using the covariance statistical test. Findings revealed 0. 339 positive effect of training neurocognitive functions on the reinforcement of disposition toward critical thinking. Also, regarding the effectiveness of neurocognitive functions on the components of disposition to critical thinking, creativity and commitment, a positive effect was reported, whilst no difference was observed between the experimental and control groups regarding the eloquence component.

Abstract: 

The focus of this article was comparing the previous types of recruitment of teachers in primary education. Three problems were studied, including comparing the students' math achievement based on the difference in various types of recruitment, type of majors, and the integrated variable of teacher education and majors of teachers. Statistical controlling was applied by two variables in each analysis. The data of TIMSS 2015 were used in the research, however, the information of teachers were validated by personal contacts with them. Then, data were analyzed using multiple regressions with categorical predictors. The results showed that grade 4 students’ mathematics achievement was independent from the ways in which their teachers were recruited. Also, there was no difference in the mathematics achievement of students whose teachers had different majors; however, comparison based on the teachers' education level showed that the diploma teachers' performance was significantly lower than other teachers with higher education levels. The integration of the teachers' preparation method and their major indicated that the students whose teachers were educated just for primary education did not outperform the students whose teachers were not educated for primary education, in the tests. Instead, the students of the teachers prepared for majors other than the primary school education outperformed the other groups of students. Findings have raised a number of questions about the effectiveness of teacher preparation programs in Iran, with emphasis on their qualitative improvement.

Abstract: 

Nowadays, the process of development of people aged 18 to 25, especially among University students, has become an individual project due to the reduced institutional support, and requires a human agency. On the other hand, the development of human agency among the teacher training students is of most importance, compared to other students, due to the complexity of the teaching job. The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare the level of agency and its components among the students of Farhangian University (FU) and the State University (SU). This study was conducted with a cross-sectional survey method on a sample of 700 undergraduate students. To collect data, Multi-Measure Agentic Personality Scale of Cote (1997) was used. Univariate analysis of variance yielded a complex pattern of findings about the degree of students’ agency, in which the level of agency was a function of the interaction between the type of University, gender, and age. Multivariate analysis of variance showed that there is interaction between the type of University and the age of students in determining the components of internal locus of control and self-efficacy. Findings showed that, at the entrance to the FU, the level of agency of both genders was high and in males was higher than females, however, in the long run, the level of agency in both gender is reduced and get closer together, and this was the opposite in the SU. Findings also showed that the components of the internal locus of control and self-efficacy of teacher training students at the beginning of entering the FU were more than SU students, but over time, the level of both components decreased in the FU, and increased in SU. From the comparison of the trend of changes in the level of agency and its components in students based on demographic variables, it was concluded that the presence in the University does not have a considerable impact on the level of agency and its components; and FU limits the agency and some of its components among the students.

Abstract: 

Globalization has proposed a new form of the citizenship which is called “ Global Citizenship” and has caused the education systems to look for preparing the students for living in the universal community and to prepare them for confronting with global challenges and problems through reviewing their policies. This research has been done with the aim of determining the degree of attention to the global citizen's characteristics in the upstream documents of Iran's education system. It was a descriptive research with the content analysis and the document analysis design. The research population included the upstream documents of the education system such as the document of »the fundamental transformation of education«, »the act of the sixth development plan«, »the national curriculum of the Islamic republic of Iran«, and »the citizenship rights charter«. To collect the data, a researcher-made content analysis checklist was used which was made based on the components of the global citizenship education, extracted from the literature review. Its validity was confirmed by some experts of this field and its reliability was computed using the Neundorf percentage agreement formula (%80). Findings showed that the global citizenship has not been paid attention as it deserves, and it is necessary that the education system policy-makers pay more attention to this concept. This is because solving the global problems requires the simultaneous realization of the membership, rights, charges and responsibilities and global participation, which will be achieved only through the institutionalization of the global citizenship as aware, active and responsible citizens in the urban community and beyond, in national and international community.

Abstract: 

The present study examined the mediating role of academic self-regulation in the relationshipbetween perceived social support from teacher and academic engagement among high school students of Birjand. It was a descriptive and correlational study. The research sample consisted of 258 high school juniors (129 males and 129 females) who were selected using multistage random sampling method. The research instruments included academic engagement questionnaire (Reeve, 2013), self-regulated questionnaire (MSLQ) and social support questionnaire (CASSS2000). The analysis of the results, obtained through the method of structural equation modeling revealed that the perceived social support from the teacher has a positive direct, significant influence upon students’ academic self-regulation; therefore, it can indirectly affect their academic engagement. Furthermore, social support perceived from the teacher had a direct positive influence on the students' academic engagement. In conclusion, it can be expressed that the perception of teacher’ s social support by students plays an imperative role in improving the students' self-regulation and academic engagement skills.

Abstract: 

Nowadays, preschools use multimedia educational software under the influence of information communication technology to enhance learners' learning. Attention to the developmental characteristics of preschool children as a basis for selecting instructional multimedia software increases the effectiveness and efficiency of their use. So, the evaluative research method and the hierarchical analysis process approach were used to select the appropriate educational software. The research population included all of the preschool instructional software packages produced by multimedia companies in Iran. Among them, 12 soft wares were selected as the research sample through available sampling method and they were evaluated using a researcher-made 29 items checklist. Content validity of the research tool was approved by 3 relevant experts, and its reliability was obtained using the consistency ratio for all criteria and software packages (CR<. 1), indicating the logicality and reliability of the pair comparisons. Findings related to prioritizing the evaluation criteria relative to each other revealed that the quality of criteria; the appropriateness with the age of the children, being enjoyable/ engaging, educational value, child friendly, assessment & monitoring, and personalization capabilities, in educational software were ranked 1 to 6, respectively. Also, according to the findings related to the prioritization of preschool educational soft wares based on the whole evaluation criteria; Mishā and Kooshā software (with value of 0/139) was in the top priority, and the lullaby software (with value of 0/032) was ranked 12th, as well. In sum, it can be concluded that the quality of most pre-school instructional software packages in all dimensions, especially in the two dimensions of "assessment & monitoring", and "personalization capabilities", need to be strengthened, and only a limited number of instructional soft wares, including "Mishā and Kooshā ", " Baby Einstein ", " Brainy Baby", "Preschool and Kindergarten, " and "Pictorial Instruction of the Persian Alphabet" can promote the learners learning.
