Title

THE EFFECT OF GROUP TRAINING AND E-LEARNING ON SELF-PERCEPTION IN DIABETES ADOLESCENTS

Pages

Abstract

Background & Aim: The formation of SELF-PERCEPTION during this period can have a significant effect on adolescents’ growth and development; as such, DIABETES can be a serious hazard for adolescents’ SELF-PERCEPTION. This study aimed to investigate the effect of group training and E-LEARNING on self -perception among adolescents with DIABETES.Material & Methods: This clinical trial study conducted. The study sample consisted of 80 teenagers between 11-19 years old in the Iran DIABETES Association. Patients randomly allocated in two groups, including a control group (n=40) and experimental groups (n=40). The training content was similar in both groups. In the control group, the educational contents were trained in three sessions of 4 hours by researcher and in the experimental group, they were trained by a CD. Then the score of their self-concept was measured using the 80-item Piers-Harris questionnaire, both before and after intervention. For data analysis, t-test, X2 and paired t-test were used with the SPSS software Ver.16.Results: Finding showed that adolescents with a mean age in the experimental group and the control group were 15.87±2.62 15.85 ± 2.51, respectively. There were not significant differences regarding SELF-PERCEPTION in two groups before the intervention. However, there was a significant difference between self-concept scores of the Piers-Harris test in two control and experience groups after the intervention (P=0.001).Conclusion: According to the results of this study, the mean±SD was more intended towards self-concept by E-LEARNING CD. Using E-LEARNING, the self-concept of adolescents with DIABETES can be increased and blood glucose levels reduce and diabetic complications will be reduced, too. It is recommended that this method be used to train and reinforce the SELF-PERCEPTION of DIABETES adolescents.
