THE EVALUATION OF THE EFFECT OF SOME COMMON CARBONATED BEVERAGES IN IRAN ON ENAMEL MICROHARDNESS OF THE HUMAN EXTRACTED TEETH

Abstract

 Background and Objective: Outspreaded of modern life style causes increasing consumption of CARBONATED BEVERAGES. VICKERS hardness measurement is one of the most practical methods to determine the microhardness of the teeth enamel. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of some of the common CARBONATED BEVERAGES in Iran on the microhardness of the human extracted teeth enamel in Yazd dental clinics.Subjects and Methods: In this experimental in-vitro study, 60 anterior and posterior human teeth were collected and surface preparation of the samples for measuring VICKERS hardness was done and enamel blocks were divided into 6 groups:1-Limon Delester, 2-Orange Miranda, 3-Pepsi, 4- Carbonated Doogh, 5-Sprite and 6-physiologic serum (control group). Samples were kept in each group 6 hours per day for one week. This study was microhardness analyzed in 3 stages (Initial, after one day and at the end 7 day). Microhardness was measured with MH1 (Iran-Sari) VICKERS hardness measurement. Finally data were analyzed with SPSS17,T-tests,ANOVA,TukeyHSDand Repeated measure statistical tests.Results: Tukey HSD test showed at the beginning groups did repeated measure not have a significant difference and after one day the first studied five groups had a significant difference with the control group. ANOVA test and p-values showed that microhardness after one day and at the end 7 day in studied groups, significantly decreased. (P-value<0.05). ST test of time in terms of overall Repeated measure was significant, and interaction between time and group by (P-value <0.001) were significant. .Conclusion: This study showed that common CARBONATED BEVERAGES in Iran have significantly decrease the enamel hardness after one day and at the end 7 day P <0.05 and their consumption should be spread with a safer potential.
