Abstract

Pheochromocytoma is the causative factor of (high blwd pressure) in less than 1% of hypertensive population. About 90-95% of cases is benign, and 5-10% malignant. Most of the clinical manifestations of this disease is due to release of active amines from the tumor. Diagnosis is based on detection of elevated serum or urinary catecholamine and CT scan imaging, The only effective treatment is surgical operation, that needs a specific preoperative management. In this article a case of pheochromocytoma is presented. The patient is a 55 years old woman with a long history of upper GI upset. She had received multiple medications during previous 2years. The radiological examination revealed a cystic lesion in upper pole of her right kidney. During her hospitalization for clinical evaluation she had multiple hypertensive crisis. After excision of the cystic lesion the patient become normotensive and her problems subsided. Her pathologic report confirmed pheochromocytoma.
