Abstract

FAITH-BASED ORGANIZATIONs (FBOs) are type of non-profit organizations whose core motivation is Faith (religion). A diversity of definitions, key aspect identification and typologies have been offered in literature and a lot of research has been carried out on management, leadership, and funding of these organizations. Meanwhile, in Iran, which has experienced an Islamic culture and the establishment of faith-based institutions in the post revolutionary era, a lack of sufficient research that could cope with the one done internationally is felt. STUDENT BASIJ, a religious institution recruiting volunteers, was established by order of the Great Leader of the Islamic revolution and its basic duty is safeguarding the Islamic and revolutionary principles. Despite this, not much conspicuous scientific research has been done on this very important volunteer group. The present research has reviewed FBO literature focusing on a LEADERSHIP COMPETENCY MODEL. Then after interviewing Tehran University Basij authorities, their essential leadership competencies required are extracted and presented.
