CONSTRUCTING AND STANDARDIZATION OF RELIGIOUS BELIEF SCALE AMONG STUDENTS IN ISLAMIC AZAD UNIVERSITY ABHAR BRANCH

Abstract

 In order to efficiently do planning in our Islamic society regarding religious belief, how to create and reinforce it among youngsters, the need to construct an instrument was felt. To do so, a RELIGIOUS BELIEF SCALE was constructed and was given to the sample group consisting of 656 students (348 boys and 308 girls). They were all selected using stratified random sampling. In this descriptive method of research, a 47 item researcher-made scale was administered. As the questionnaire included seven subcategories, factor analysis was used to check the correlation of each item with the whole questionnaire. The weak items were deleted. This left us with final 40 items. Reliability was calculated through Cronbach Alpha (a=0.90). The scale's validity was proved high by calculating content validity (expert opinions), criterion-referenced validity, and construct validity. The findings show that there is a significant difference between the religious belief among boys and girls (Girls showed a higher religious belief). However, no significant difference was found among students in different fields of study.
