Abstract

The purpose of the present research was to study the relationship between parents' child rearing practices and youngsters' MENTAL HEALTH in Islamshahr. The population of research was comprised of all high school students in Islamshahr. 300 (150 girls and 150 boys) were selected through cluster random sampling. 12 hypotheses were formulated about the relationship between parents' child rearing practices (democratic, autocratic, and neglectful) and youngsters' MENTAL HEALTH (physical symptoms, anxiety and sleeplessness, and disorder in social functions and depression) together with 4 items related to productivity value of child rearing practices in youngsters' MENTAL HEALTH.  Baumrind's Child Rearing Practices Test and GHQ-28 test were administered. To analyze the data, Pearson correlation of coefficient and regression analysis were used. The findings indicated that there is a negative correlation between democratic child rearing practice and different aspects of MENTAL HEALTH (physical symptoms, anxiety and sleeplessness, and disorder in social functions and depression). Moreover, there is a positive correlation between autocratic child rearing practices and neglectfulness with different aspects of MENTAL HEALTH. The result of regression analysis also indicates that.
