Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between affective FAMILY FUNCTIONING and CREATIVITY in 4 th and 5th grades of elementary school students in Isfahan. The correlation approach was used in this study. Therefore 90 male and 90 female students were randomly selected from the 4 th and 5 th grades. The students answered the word association test (items CREATIVITY) and one of their parents answered the affective FAMILY FUNCTIONING and the demographic questionnaire items. The FAMILY FUNCTIONING sub-scales were: Relations, roles, problem solving, affective response, affective involvement, and functioning. It was hypothesized that there would be significant relation ships between CREATIVITY and FAMILY FUNCTIONING sub-scale scores. The results showed that there was a significant correlation between CREATIVITY and affective responding (p<0.05), and between CREATIVITY and affective involvement (p<0.01). The relationships between CREATIVITY and the rest of the FAMILY FUNCTIONING sub-scale scores were not significant. Girls scored significantly higher than did boys on the word association test (p<0.05).
