THE EFFECT OF PRESCHOOL EDUCATION ON THE LEARNING OF PSYCHOMOTOR SKILLS AND SOCIAL ADJUSTMENT OF TEHRAN ELEMENTARY STUDENTS

Abstract

 Children’s preparedness for entering school and their later academic achievement are related to their different aspects of development. There are contradictory views about the effects of PRESCHOOL EDUCATION. On the one hand, some theoreticians believe that, many of preschool programs do not make and achievement for children and some others on the other hand, believe that, preschool experiences have positive effect on child development. The purpose of this study is to consideration of the effect of PRESCHOOL EDUCATION on the learning of PSYCHOMOTOR SKILLS and SOCIAL ADJUSTMENT of elementary students. This is a causal-comparative study and the subjects were 320 students of grades 1 to 3 of elementary school that of which 160 students have received PRESCHOOL EDUCATION and 160 students haven’t received. Results showed that in PSYCHOMOTOR SKILLS and SOCIAL ADJUSTMENT there was no significant difference between two groups. Also, there was no significant difference between male and female in trained students in PSYCHOMOTOR SKILLS and SOCIAL ADJUSTMENT, however, in untrained students there was. Results demonstrated that the preschool experience isn’t enough for psychomotor development and SOCIAL ADJUSTMENT, but it seems that, there are some other variables such as instruction program of preschool, teacher’s personality and relationship, the preschool place, and the years of preschool experience, are important.
