THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THINKING STYLES AND PERSONALITY TYPES AND ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION IN GUIDANCE SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract

 The main purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between THINKING STYLES, PERSONALITY TYPES AND ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION. 400 of male students out of Tehran guidance school were selected by cluster sampling and completed the following questionnaires: THINKING STYLES Stenberg -Wagner, short NEO Personality and Bernard Weiner’s Achievement motivation questionnaire. The Data was analyzed using Pearson correlation, multiple regressions and stepwise regression. The study showed that, from subscales of THINKING STYLES (executive, legislative and Judicial) there is a positive correlation between the executive and judicial style subscales AND ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION in male guidance school students. But no significant correlation was observed between the Legislative Style subscales AND ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION. The relationship between PERSONALITY TYPES with students’ Achievement motivation was considered in another hypothesis of this study. The results indicate that there is a negative correlation between neuroticism personality type AND ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION and there is a significant positive correlation between Conscientious personality AND ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION, also students' Achievement motivation was predicted only by means of conscientiousness scale.
