Abstract

This study was carried out to investigate the simple and multiple relationships between THINKING STYLES and ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION. To this end, 230 male students were selected by multi-stage random sampling method from Mazandaran University. The research questionnaires were Steinberg and Wagner's THINKING STYLES Inventory and Hermans' ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION Questionnaire which were completed by subjects. Using some statistical techniques such as, multiple regression and correlation coefficient, the data was analyzed. The findings of the research showed a significant positive relationship between legislative, judicial, global, local, liberal, hierarchical, monarchic, anarchic and internal THINKING STYLES and that of ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION. In addition, the results showed there was significant negative relationship between executive, conservative and external THINKING STYLES and that of ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION. Also, the results showed that there was no significant relationship between oligarchic thinking style and ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION. Regression analysis results also showed that there is a significant multiple correlation coefficient between THINKING STYLES and ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION (MR=0.60).
