  73-81

Abstract

Background and Objective: Due to the negative impact of CHEATING in learning process and the need for planning to reduce it, this study was performed to determine the frequency and factors associated with CHEATING among STUDENTs of Qom University of MEDICAL SCIENCEs in 2013 Materials and Methods: This study was a cross sectional one. Questionnaires were given to all the STUDENTs of Qom University of MEDICAL SCIENCEs and 536 STUDENTs completed the questionnaire. The validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by ten experts and its reliability was examined in a pilot study. SPSS software was used to analyze the data. Descriptive statistic was used to calculate mean and standard deviation, and for inferential statistics t-test was performed. Results: 536 STUDENTs participated in the study. Frequency of CHEATING among STUDENTs of Anesthesiology was the highest and among STUDENTs of operating room and midwifery was the lowest. The most common ways of CHEATING were taking a furtive look at classmate's examination paper and displaying one's exam paper to other STUDENTs. The least common ways of CHEATING were accessing the questions before the exam and asking someone else to attend the examination session. Additionally, the most common reason of CHEATING was due to the only evaluation criterion which is taking a good score and anxiety was the least reason of not to cheat. Conclusions: Many types of CHEATING are avoidable by creating regulations, training and training management. Prevalence of CHEATING in academic environments of Iran is undeniable that is why extensive research should be done to identify the dependent variables of CHEATING among STUDENTs, especially medical STUDENTs.
