THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SELF–EFFICACY BELIEFS AND MENTAL HEALTH AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN BAM NURSING STUDENTS

Abstract

 Background and Objective: Self-efficacy is individuals’ perception of their ability to perform across a variety of different situations. Efficacy beliefs can have positive or negative effects on MENTAL HEALTH. Generally students in the community are considered to be the community builders, considering the psychological dimensions of their have a significant role in the MENTAL HEALTH community whole. The aim of this study was to the determine Relationship between self -efficacy And MENTAL HEALTH and ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT in bam NURSING STUDENTS at 2011.Material and Methods: In this descriptive comparative study, all of the Bam NURSING STUDENTS were selected to participate in the study. data collection tools was General Self–Efficacy Scale (GSES) and Symptom Checklist-25 (SCL-25) and their total average. data were analyzed with using Ttest, ANOVA and pearson correlation.Results: Finding showed that 3.6% of students had low, 84.8% had moderate and 11.5% strong efficacy beliefs. In the field of MENTAL HEALTH associated with efficacy beliefs, MENTAL HEALTH status of students with strong efficacy beliefs was better than students with low and moderate belief.so that high average was related to dimension of schizophrenia and depression (4.21) and low was related to Obsessive-compulsive dimension. Compared the average students with efficacy beliefs (p=0.44, r=0.062) and MENTAL HEALTH status (p=0.96, r=0.044) showed no significant difference.Conclusion: MENTAL HEALTH and ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT in these students are inadequate and planning educational program for promoting MENTAL HEALTH and ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT based on self-efficacy theory is necessary.
