POSTMODERN CURRICULUM MODEL AND ITS APPLICATION IN THE NURSING EDUCATION SYSTEM IN IRAN: DESIGN AND EVALUATION OF THE MODEL

Abstract

 Introduction: The shortcomings of the traditional curriculum and its inability to meet the real needs of students led to pay more attention to newer models of curriculum by program planners. One of the approaches that can transform nursing education and improve its quality is the postmodern curriculum. The present study aimed to evaluate the curriculum pattern of postmodern in Iran' s nursing education.Methods: This study was a descriptive and applied research. It was presented with six elements: objectives, content, teaching and learning methods, learning environment, the role of learner and EVALUATION. The model was evaluated by 214 curriculum specialists using the researcher-made questionnaire. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage tables) and inferential statistics (chi-square and Fisher's exact test).Results: According to the results of this study, the model of postmodern curriculum was designed for the NURSING EDUCATION SYSTEM. The findings showed that more than 82%of the curriculum specialists evaluated the model as a desirable one. There was no significant difference between curriculum specialists about the desirability of the proposed elements in this model (P>0.05).Conclusions: The results showed that the CURRICULUM MODEL was designed on the basis of the postmodern approach; EVALUATION is desirable according to the curriculum experts for its application in the NURSING EDUCATION SYSTEM in Iran.
