Abstract

Introduction: Clinical settings due to their inherent nature can be stressful and challenging, which may result in depression, anxiety and job dissatisfaction among critical care nurses. One of the factors that, in many cases, can play a supporting role and assures quality care is SELF-COMPASSION.Aim: This study aimed to assess SELF-COMPASSION in critical care nurses.Method: This cross-sectional study was carried out on 181 CRITICAL NURSES (ICU, CCU, NICU and Dialysis) from hospitals in South Khorasan province in 2017. Nurses were selected by convenience sampling method. Data were collected with Neff’s SELF-COMPASSION Questionnaire (2003) and its internal consistency was (a=0.81).Data analyzed by descriptive (mean, standard deviation, frequency and relative frequency) and inferential (t-test, ANOVA and Pearson’s coefficient of correlation) statistics.Results: Mean level (3.86±0.67) of SELF-COMPASSION was moderate.There was a significant correlation between SELF-COMPASSION and age, experience years, sex as well as educational level (P<0.05).Conclusion: Nurse Managers should facilitate understanding and insight to SELF-COMPASSION in nurses to gain a better attitude toward events of WORK ENVIRONMENT. By this they would be used self- compassion for dealing job stresses.
