Abstract

Recently, TUMOR MARKERs are important for diagnosis and follow up of some malignancies Glutathione -s- transferase is an enzyme that may be a TUMOR MARKER in GASTROINTESTINAL CANCERs, especially esophageal and gastric carcinomas. Measurement of serum activity of glutathione - s- transferase µ in 42 normal volunteers, 29 esophageal cancer patients and 28 stomach cancer patients was done. This study was descriptive. Serum activity of glutathione -s- transferance µ increased significantly in malignant patients as compared to normal volunteers. G.S.T. P increases in esophageal and stomach cancer and can be a TUMOR MARKER for diagnosis and follow up of these patients
