Abstract

Introduction and Objectives: Since CYANIDE is a strong inhibitor of cytochrome oxidase and metabolism, we need to know whether it is useful in increasing cardiac resistance to ISCHEMIA.Materials and Methods: Male rats received either 1.7mg/kg potassium CYANIDE or normal saline transperitoneally for 35 days. Then, ISOLATED HEARTs were examined at baseline, during ISCHEMIA and after return to normal perfusion state.Results: Coronary blood flow, LEFT VENTRICULAR PRESSURE and contractility (dp/dt) were similar in two groups, but at ischemic state (p<0.005) and at recovery to normal state (p<0.05) there were statistically significant differences in LEFT VENTRICULAR PRESSURE and contractility (dp/dt) between the two groups.Discussion and Conclusions: It seams that CYANIDE induce cardiac resistance to ischemic effects in rats.
