Abstract

Medical students’ ability to communicate and also the proper use of communication skills are the most important factors affecting their learning quality and promote their performance in clinical settings. Hence, this descriptive cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the effective factors on the student-patient Communication performance in the operating room ward from the viewpoint of anesthetist students in Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences that 75 students of anesthetist students in 2019 were included as the research population. The data was collected through a researcher-made questionnaire with 6 dimensions including personal, social, occupational, environmental factors, factors related to education and clinical conditions of the patient. Data were analyzed using descriptive and independent statistics (ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis). The mean of total score of factors was 3. 04 ± 0. 56, with the highest mean of clinical condition estimated 3. 34 ± 0. 71 and the least of the related Social factors was 2. 72 ± 0. 75. Therefore, there was no significant relationship between demographic factors and individual, social, professional, environmental factors, and factors related to education and clinical conditions of the patient (p>0. 05). Although, a significant relationship was observed between gender and personal and environmental factors and marital status and environmental factors (P<0. 05). On the other hand, from the students' point of view, Clinical factors had the greatest impact on student-patient communication. Educational and therapeutic systems managers consequently should focus their efforts on modifying the factors in order to improve this relationship and ultimately improve the quality of clinical education of students.
