Abstract

 There are reports of significant differences in MOTIVATIONAL BELIEFS, self regulation learning strategies and some aspects of PERSONALITY CHARACTERISTICS between gifted and regular students in previous studies. We designed a study to compare mentioned items between gifted and regular high school students in Ahvaz.145 gifted high school students were compared with 203 regular students chosen by cluster sampling according to the results of MOTIVATIONAL BELIEFS and SELF REGULATED LEARNING questionnaire (MSLQ) and personality questionnaire (NEO-FFI). Data were analyzed by MANOA method and T test. The results showed higher scores of MOTIVATIONAL BELIEFS in regular students. Regarding SELF REGULATED LEARNING, the cognitive strategies were also higher in regular while the metaacognitive strategies were better in gifted students. There were also significant differences in PERSONALITY CHARACTERISTICS between the two groups. The feature of openness was better in gifted students while conscientiousness was higher in regular group.
