Title

THE COMPARISON OF STATIC, DYNAMIC AND COMBINED STRETCHING EFFECT WITH TOW AND FIVE MINUTES TIME INTERVALS, ON PERFORMANCE AND ELECTROMYOGRAPHIC ACTIVITY IN VERTICAL JUMP

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the acute effects of static, dynamic and COMBINED STRETCHing with 2 and 5 minute intervals upon VERTICAL JUMP (VJ) Performance, and Electromyographic activity of the vastus medialis muscle. 11 untrained girls, (age: 21.58±0.90 years, height: 162.67±4.91 cm, weight: 59.87±1.02 kg, BMI: 22.63±3.88 kg/m2) were randomly placed in one of eight different conditions (no stretching (NS), STATIC STRETCHing (SS), DYNAMIC STRETCHing (DS), and COMBINED STRETCHing (CD) with 2 and 5 minute intervals respectively in each group) on separate occasions, in a crossover design. After each condition, measurements of VERTICAL JUMP Flight time and EMG activity during the VERTICAL JUMP were recorded. the Results of repeated measures ANOVA and Bonferroni post hoc indicated that there were significant difference between the VJ flight time (P=0.001), and muscle electrical activity (P=0.001) after types of stretching (in both intervals, DYNAMIC STRETCHing showed highest results, STATIC STRETCHing and without stretching groups had the bottom of the results and the combined groups showed borderline results). However, there were no significant differences between the groups of static, dynamic and COMBINED STRETCHing themselves, in intervals 2 and 5 minutes (P³0.05).It can be concluded that although the time interval between the stretching and performance can be important, but it is not as important as the stretching type. And to determine the effect of stretching on the performance, the type of stretching is more important than the interval between the stretching and performance.
