Abstract

Entamoeba infection is a major cause of dysentery in developing countries. Association between Entamoeba histolytica as a protozoa and occurrence of HEMOLYTIC UREMIC SYNDROME is growing. On the other hand, METRONIDAZOLE is also deemed as a cause of HEMOLYTIC UREMIC SYNDROME. This may make the clinicians suspicious about the real pathogenesis of HEMOLYTIC UREMIC SYNDROME. In this case report a 9 year old girl presented to emergency department with acute renal failure following an amebiasis dysentery and 5 days of METRONIDAZOLE usage. With diagnosis of HEMOLYTIC UREMIC SYNDROME, the patient was put under appropriate treatment protocol.
