Abstract

From the clinical and epidemiological perspective, a rapid method to differentiate M.tuberculosis from M.bovis is urgently needed, both for treatment (due to the intrinsic resistance of M.bovis to pyrazinamide) and eventually for attribution of isolate to a previously known epidemic outbreak. In this study mycolic acids of M.tuberculosis and M.bovis strains by a modified process extracted, derivatized and gone under chromatographic process by HPLC. Under applied HPLC conditions different chromatographic finger prints were obtained which were reproducible in each species but different among M.bovis and M.tuberculosis. So differentiation between these mycobacteria is possible with this method.
