Abstract

Mental development almost reaches its peak at the end of childhood (about the of 16-27). Nevertheless it seems that this process never stops entirely, and some hazardous Factors can damage it, in adults.CNS INFECTIONs are among the most important of these hazards. In this study, we chose 23 adult patients whom had been treated completely then determined their IQ. We compared their mean IQ with a control group.One Patient (4.3%), had an IQ compatible with mild MR (IQ=61), and we also found that the pyogenic meningoencephalitis group, when compared with the other groups of patients, and with our control group, had a statistically significant lower mean IQ.These results can suggest that the influence of the environmental hazards (such as INFECTIONs) upon MENTAL status is not confined to childhood, and we should anticipate it even in adults.
