A SURVEY ON LEANING STYLES OF MEDICAL STUDENTS (BASED ON KOLB THEORY) IN QAZVIN

Abstract

 Introduction: Several Factors may influence teaching – learning process. One of them is individual learning style. Teacher must consider students' learning style to enhance their academic Performance. The aim of this survey was determination the learning style (Based on the kolb experiential learning theory) among medical students of Qazvin medical Faculty.Methods: This is a descriptive study which was carried out in Qazvin in the academic year 2001. A questionnaire (Including demographic questions and kolb learning style inventory) was used to gather the data. 229 persons participated in the survey by completing the questionnaire.Results: Results indicated that the most of the student were as assimilator (43.1%) and the others were converger (38.1%) ‘(9.6%) and accomodator (9.2%). The Most of students in basic sciences period were as assimilator but the most of them in clinical period were as converger. Other findings have been presented in original paper.Conclusion: Findings suggest that most of medical students tend to apply assimilating and converging learning styles. It seems that individual learning styles are affected by learning environment and tasks, although more researches are necessary. Teachers must consider different learning styles of students in their classes.
