INFLUENCE OF MILITARY TRAINING PERIOD ON CADET STUDENTS' MENTAL HEALTH

Abstract

 Aims: Today, general health is one of the important social and scientific issues of the world, especially among militants. Reports of world health organization indicate that psychic disorders engaged 10% of adults in the society and these disorders are going to be more appeared. This research was to determine the effect of MILITARY TRAINING PERIOD on general health of cadet STUDENTs.Methods: In this research, 113 cadet STUDENTs who were passing general training period in 2008 studied with Goldberg general health questionnaire (GHQ-28). Results: The average of acquired distinction from GHQ-28 questionnaire in the first days of MILITARY TRAINING PERIOD was 9.54±4.9 and at the end of the period was 9.67±5.5. Wilcoxon test showed no significant statistical difference between them (p=0.53), but the scores of range 1 (physical signs) and range 3 (social function) before and after intervention showed significant statistical differences (p<0.001 and p<0.02). "Man-Whitney" statistical test showed a significant relationship between participating in religious ceremonies and range I in pre-test (p=0.01) and post-test (p=0.001).Conclusion: Although the inherent characteristics of MILITARY TRAINING PERIOD have negative effect on mental health of STUDENTs, but the arrangements used during the course, keep the mental health of STUDENTs is a desirable level.
