Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of group career counseling course based on cognitive information processing on decrease of dysfunctional career thoughts in Isfahan University. This investigation was a semi -experimental study. Thirty subjects were selected randomly from Isfahan University students who participated in entrepreneurship center. The subjects were placed in experimental and control groups. Group career counseling course based on cognitive information processing was administered on experimental group in six sessions. The instrument used in this research was Career Thought Inventory. Results showed group career counseling decreased total score of dysfunctional career thoughts of the subjects (p =0.01) and four subscales: Disability thoughts (p=0.01), significant others thoughts (p=0.009), lack of opportunity thoughts (p=0.002) and external conflict thoughts. This course could not decrease score of the perfection thoughts (p=0.45).
