KHORAMABAD DRINKING WATER CHLORINATION EFFICIENCY WITH TURBIDITY VARIATIONS

Abstract

 One of the effective parameters on the water CHLORINATION EFFICIENCY is water TURBIDITY, so that high TURBIDITY decreases chlor effect on bacteria.This descriptive study covered all springs that supply Khoramabad drinking water. Sampls collected from springs weekly before and after CHLORINATION in the form of triplicate samples series, one before CHLORINATION and three times triplicate series after the CHLORINATION. Using thiusolphalt sodium, the chlor of the first series samples was removed immediately, and the chlor of the second and thired series were removed 15 and 30 minutes afterwards respectively.Samples for total coliforms E.coli and TURBIDITY tests were sent to laboratory very fast (less than 2 hours).Results showed that tap water TURBIDITY increased in the end of Isfand and Farvardin. So TURBIDITY content is higher than WHO guidelines. This increase of TURBIDITY correlates with CHLORINATION EFFICIENCY (Immediately after CHLORINATION) So it results in increasing of total coliform becteria and E.coli, but with pass of time of the CHLORINATION this correlation is lost and no significant relation is observed between CHLORINATION EFFICIENCY and TURBIDITY.So it is recommended to avoid of direct injection of springs' water to the distribution system immediately after CHLORINATION, and to be remain in the supply sources for at least 15 minutes.
