Abstract

Many researches have been carried out on opioids analgesic efficacy. Some reports showed intra-articular opioids to be ineffective, others reported a significan positive effect on postoperative analgesia. We evaluated the efficacy of intra-articular Sufentanil in the prevention of postoperative pain after diagnostic knee arthroscopic procedures .Sixty patients were randomly assigned to receive either intra articular Sufentanil 7.5 mg and saline IV(group A),or intra articular saline and sufentanil 7.5 mg/IV (group B=Control).Study was double blinded. At postoperation and day after surgery, pain levels at rest and during movment (i.e, active flexion of the knee), measured by a visual analog scale, were significantly lower in the group A .Morever, intra articular Sufentanil significantly reduced the postoperative consumption of analgesics. The time until discharge from the postoperative care unit was significantly shorter in the patients receiving Sufentanil intra-articularly. So we conclude that intra atricular Sufentanil in arthroscopic knee procedures is a simple, effective, safe and well-tolerated analgesic technique for outpatients undergoing arthroscopic procedures.
