Aims: Satisfaction of educational fields is one of the most important factors for students’success and their education. Fields of Medical records and health information technology have similarities in terms of educational contents. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare students’ satisfaction with medical records and health information technology from their educational field. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, all students of medical records and health information technology (n=120) were studied by census method at Kerman University of Medical Sciences in 2013. Data collection tool was a questionnaire with 20 questions that its validity was confirmed by expert consensus and its reliability was proved by Cronbach’s alpha (a=957%, P -value=0.01). The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and Statistical software SPSS 20. Informed consent to participate in this research was annexed. Results: The mean and median of satisfaction score were 4.23 and 4.25 for the field of medical records among students while the numbers showed 4.08 and 4.06 among health information technology students, respectively. Since the mean of the score was almost equal to the median score, so the students’ satisfaction about both fields of education was assessed. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between sex, working status and knowledge about the field (P<0.05).Conclusion: The majority of students in two fields did not show a high satisfaction regarding their field of study. But generally students of medical records were more satisfied compared to students of health information technology regarding their educational field.Assessment methods and people’s attitudes of educational field can have an effect on the satisfaction rate. Results showed many students had not high knowledge about the content of the curriculum, when choosing their educational field and the majority had chosen their educational field without cognition.
