Abstract

Aims: Given the importance of IQ and self-monitoring in human behavior which has effects on the individual's life, this study investigated the relationship between IQ and STUDENTS‘self-regulation at Birjand University of Medical Sciences. Methods: This study was a descriptive-analytic cross-sectional study. The Statistical population included all the STUDENTS at Birjand University of Medical Sciences (n=2300). According to Cochran’s Formula, the sample was calculated as 171 persons who were selected by random sampling method. R. B. Cattell (3rd scale) and Snyder’s 25-item standard tests were used to assessing IQ and SELF-REGULATION, respectively. The validity of the self-regulatory questionnaire was approved by experts that its reliability was calculated by Cronbach's alpha as 85%. For data analysis, Pearson correlation test, ANOVA and independent T-test were used at a significance level (p£0.05).Results: From 171 participants, 91 individuals (53.2%) were women who aged 21.3±2.7 years. The average scores of IQ and SELF-REGULATION were 106±10.44 and 12.35±3.20 respectively. IQ scores did not show significant correlation with self regulation test results (P>0.641). The high IQ score belonged to women (P=0.04) while men’s score of Self-regulatory was significantly higher than women (P=0.007).Conclusion: Teaching and learning of self-regulatory approach can enhance selfconfidence among STUDENTS during the externship, internship and theoretical classes, therefore they can improve their academic performance in future.
