This study was conducted to survey the view point of nursing students about characteristics of ideal clinical instructor.Materials & Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 91 nursing students of Hormozgan nursing faculty. A questionnaire was used to evaluate a clinical instructor considering individual characteristics, method of clinical training management, and method of evaluation. Descriptive and analytic statistics were applied to analyze the data. Results: In individual characteristics of an instructor the majority of students (91.7%) believed that respecting students, ability to communicate with students, having adequate experience, being a good speaker and good appearance were important. In method of clinical training management the majority of students (86.43%) believed that ability to answer to questions of students, improve student s practical skills, helping clinical students to understand texts, and nod discriminating between male and female students. In clinical training evaluation, the majority of student s view point (81.66%) was about fairness in evaluation of students, telling methods of evaluation at the beginning of clinical training. Conclusion: To Survey the characteristics of a clinical instructor helps teachers evaluate their own performance, so they can present better training.

Abstract:

Background & Aims: Poisoning is a important problem in public issues and is one of the relatively common causes of medical emergencies that is probably the most common cause of mortality in adults. Due to the increasing production of poisons and toxic drugs, poisoning receives more attention and research. In addition, epidemiologic studies are conducted to evaluate the appropriateness of outcomes on other populations at risk. This epidemiologic study was carried out to evaluate poisoning in adults admitted to Talegani hospital of Urmia during 2004-2008.Materials & Methods: This study was a cross-sectional descriptive survey. All of the 1208 poisoned adults hospitalized in talegani hospital during four years were studied. The required data were collected using a checklist. The results were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: The results showed that %53.6 of poisoned adults were female %64.4 were male %42.6 patients were single %57.4 were married %63.3 patients were 16-25 years and %43.4 were housewives. Drugs were the major cause of poisoning %66.4 and %86 patients were self inflicted. Conclusion: The commonest method used by females for committing suicide (16-25 years) was by drugs. It is recommended to teach families right skills for a peaceful life. It is necessary to train families about intoxication and emergency care to poisoned patients.

Background & Aims: Improved learning needs a balanced study schedule, reliable resources, continuous efforts and appropriate methods of the studying. The aim of this study is to investigate the learning styles and sources of curriculum. Methods & Materials: This Descriptive analytical study covered 326 students that were selected. The data were collected using questioners and then analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS statistical software. Results: The students referred to libraries once a week, 83% of students preferred pamphlets to prepare for final exam. 91% were completely prepared for final exam. 55.3% were less informed about critique-learning method. There was a weak correlation between the hours of study and reading times per day. (1%. R=27% p=0.00 n=302) Conclusion: It is suggested to hold learning workshops for both students and professors on studying methods and learning styles.

Abstract:

Background & Aims: Extra-pulmonary tuberculosis may develop simultaneously in the course of pulmonary tuberculosis or it may appear years after the primary pulmonary infection. About one-third of tuberculosis patients have extra pulmonary tuberculosis. This study investigated the incidence extra Pulmonary tuberculosis in Urmia during 2004-2007.Materials & Methods: This study cross-sectional retrospective study gained the required data of patients from their documented files. SPSS was used to analyze the data. Results: From 382 T cases, 134 patients with extra pulmonary were identified (incidence rate of four years = 16.38 per 100,000). The maximum incidence rate (4.44 per 100000) was in 2006 and the minimum incidence rate (3.76 per 100000) was in 2007. Seventy cases (52.2%) were males and 64 were women (47.8%). Sex proportion was 1/09. Tuberculosis lymphadenitis was the prevalent form of extra pulmonary tuberculosis. Conclusion: In this study we observed that extra pulmonary tuberculosis involves more than one-third of tuberculosis patients and the incidence rate increased during the first three years (2004-2006) and decreased in the last year (2007).

Abstract:

Background & Aims: A fter cancer and cardiovascular diseases, pressure ulcers are the third costly disorders. Most common causes of pressure ulcers development are age over 70 years, being male, white skin, smoking, low body mass index, impaired mobility, altered mental status, urinary and fecal incontinence, malnutrition, etc. Pressure ulcers are a potential complication of intensive care patients and preventing them is a major issue in nursing care.Materials & Methods: This article reviews newest preventive methods of pressure ulcers in ICU.Results: The prevalence of pressure ulcers in Intensive Care Unit is higher than other units. 8% to 40% of ICU patients develop bedsores because of immunocompromised individuals. Conclusion: Nursing care is regarded as the key factors in the prevention of pressure ulcers. Identification of patients at risk of pressure sore development is the most important issue in pressure sore prevention. The best predictive tool for pressure sores in the intensive care unit is the Braden Scale. This scale is divided into six risk categories: sensory perception, moisture activity mobility, nutrition friction, and shear.

Abstract:

Background & Aims: The only competitive advantage of any organization (including health care centers) is people and their role in organization success. Empowerment and providing job satisfaction are essential. The aim of the present study is to review the relationship between psychological ability with job satisfaction in nursing staff.Materials & Methods: In this descriptive- correlational study the samples were selected randomly. Data gathering tools were three questioners. The data were analyzed by T-test, Pierson correlation coefficient and multiple regression. Results: While the average job satisfaction of the nursing staff was 3.847, that is indicative of a relatively desirable job satisfaction, the most dominant dissatisfaction item was related to low payment. The average psychological ability was 4.278 that show high ability. The result of correlation coefficient indicated that there is significant relation between psychological ability and job satisfaction in nursing staff. The effect of multiple regressions also indicated that there was a significant relation in reliability and trust variable with changes of job satisfaction. Conclusion: With regard to relation between psychological ability and job satisfaction in nursing staff, it is recommended that the managers of therapeutic-hygienic centers provide conditions that staff consider their job worthy and have inner interest toward it believe in their ability and capacity for doing delegated duties and have enough freedom and independence in work environment. Abstract:

Background & Aims: The Present study aimed to detect bacterial agents isolated from culture of samples that were sent to laboratory of Shahid Faghihi Medical Center of Shiraz and determin their bacterial resistance.Materials & Methods: This cross- sectional descriptive study included 1500 culture specimens consisting of urine, sputum, skin, throat, wound cultures, etc that were sent to laboratory in a five months period -spring to summer 2006. The positive culture, isolated bacterial agents and antibiogram test results were recorded in the observation sheet. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS software, descriptive statistics, and X² test. Results: Out of 1500 culture specimen, 502 were positive. 50.8 % of positive cultures belonged to men and 49.2% to women. Gentamysin (99.8%), Ciprofloxacin (99.6%), and Cephalexin (95, 8%) were mostly used antibiotics. The bacterial resistance rates were 61.6%, 50.2%, and 94.6% respectively. The most resistancy to Gentamysine was related to Antrococc (96.7%) and the least was Ecoli (37.9%). X² tests showed that positivite culture and antibiotic resistancy did not have relationship with patients' sex. Conclusion: The result showed that the increasing rate of bacterial resistance to current antibiotics are due to overconsumption. It is suggested to avoid unprescribed use of antibiotics. Further, production of effective new generation of antibiotics is essential.
