Abstract:

Introduction: Teaching the professional communication skills can be effective in developing the learners’ self-efficacy. In the patients' training with communication skills, the active and student-centered learning methods, such as role-playing, are emphasized. Therefore, this study was run to determine the effects of applying the role-playing method to communication education on the self-efficacy and communication skills of nursing students. Methods: This controlled before-after quasi-experimental study was conducted in Hamadan University of Medical Sciences in 2015. Out of 15 student groups, four groups were randomly assigned to the role-playing (n=32) and four groups to the routine (n=32). Sherer's self-efficacy questionnaire was completed by students at the beginning and end of clinical education. Patient-nurse communication program training through role-playing method was implemented during the interval period. Data analysis was run using SPSS16 by statistical tests at 95% confidence level. Results: Students in the role-playing group were compared to the conventional group in terms of the individual characteristics (P >0. 05). At the baseline, the control group had higher self-efficacy than those in the role-playing group (P<0. 05). But after the intervention, analysis of covariance showed that the significant progress was only made in the role-playing students' self-efficacy compared to the control group when baseline score differences were controlled (P<0. 001). Conclusion: Using an active role-playing method can lead to self-efficacy of undergraduate nursing students in comparison with the traditional method.

Abstract:

Introduction: A lot of nurses face the challenge of balancing their job and family roles. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of job engagement and job self-efficacy in predicting job-family conflict among female nurses. Methods: In this descriptive– correlational study, the statistical population was all 12000 female nurses of Tehran state hospitals in the second three months of 2016. Out of this population, 381 subjects were selected via cluster sampling method, and were evaluated via family-job and self-efficacy questionnaires. For statistical analysis of data the SPSS22 and the descriptive and inferential statistics methods such as Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple stepwise regression were used. The significance level in this study was 0. 05. Results: The results showed a significant negative correlation between the overall job engagement score and its components (P≤ 0. 01, F=28/127). In addition, there is a negative significant correlation between components of job self-efficacy and overall score of self-efficacy with job-family conflict and family-job conflict (P≤ 0. 05, F=126/93). Conclusion: Job engagement and job self-efficacy reduce job-family conflict. Therefore the obtained results from this research can be used in nurses’ curriculum designing to reduce job-family conflict.

Abstract:

Introduction: Spontaneous abortion is the most common complication of pregnancy that leads to mental disorders such as anxiety. Considering the high prevalence and the consequences of anxiety and the effective role of midwives in women's mental support following abortion, complementary therapies such as counseling are important. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of counseling based on Fordyce's pattern of Happiness on the anxiety of women with spontaneous abortion. Methods: This randomized clinical trial recruited 72 women with spontaneous abortion referred to Fatemiyeh hospital in Hamadan based on inclusion criteria and they were randomly assigned to intervention (n=36) and control (n=36) groups. Data were collected through a demographic questionnaire and HADS. The intervention group was consulted for a total 8 sessions of 60 minutes during the first 72 hours after the abortion. The sessions were held twice a week which lasted4 weeks. Both groups were followed immediately after and one months after the intervention. Data were analyzed via descriptive and analytical statistic with SPSS16. Results: The findings showed that before the intervention, no significant difference was observed in the mean score of anxiety between intervention and control groups (P>0. 05). After the intervention and one months later, the results showed a significant difference between the two groups on anxiety (P<0. 001). Conclusion: Counseling based on the pattern of happiness can control anxiety in women with spontaneous abortion; therefore, it is recommended that this pattern be used as an effective and noninvasive intervention to control psychological problems of women with spontaneous abortion.

Abstract:

Introduction: The Adolescents need healthy nutrition education more than any other groups. In present study, the effect of Health Belief Model education on nutrition behavior of secondary boy students was investigated. Methods: This pre and post test semi-experimental study with two groups was carried out on 120 boys of secondary schools in Hamadan. A randomized cluster sampling method and relative randomize method were used in the first and second stages respectively. At first both groups completed a questionnaire which was based on Health Belief Model and then instructions were given to intervention group in three sessions (45 minutes) on the basis of HBM model. Two months later, data were collected via questionnaires in two groups again. Statistical analysis of the data was performed by SPSS23, the statistical tests were Repeated Measurement ANOVA analysis. Results: The two groups were similar in demographic characteristics and structure of the HBMModel at the beginning of the study. After the intervention, the mean scores of Health Belief Model structures excepted for the perceived barriers and the average nutritional behavior in the experimental group were more than that of the control group's. In the area of perceived barriers, the mean scores increased in the control group. Repeated Measurement ANOVA showed significant differences between all the domains of the model except for the perceived severity (P<0. 05). Conclusion: According to the results of this study (Health Belief MODEL on Nutrition Behavior) the mean scores increased on the basis of model structures (except for the barriers) after training. So we suggest that health education programs be applied instead of applying traditional instructions.

Abstract:

Introduction: Pain is one of the common problems in burn patients. Inhalation aromatherapy is one of the nurses' methods for pain management. However, there is not much information available about the effect of these methods on pain in burn patients. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of inhalation aromatherapy with Lavender essence on the pain intensity in burn patients. Methods: The present study was a single-blind, three-group clinical trial. The research population consisted of patients with burns in one of Hamadan hospitals. One hundred and twenty patients were selected using convenience sampling and randomly assigned into three groups of lavender, placebo and control groups. The intervention included inhalation of 10 drops of lavender extract in the examiation group, 10 drops of distilled water in the placebo group, for one hour before wound dressing, and routine care in the control group. Pain in patients was evaluated before, immediately after intervention (before dressing), and after dressing using a visual analogue scale. The data were analyzed using SPSS 21 and one-way and repeated measures ANOVA with significant level of P<0. 05. Results: Demographic variables were similar in all three groups. There was a significant difference between the mean pain intensity in the groups after intervention (P<0. 05), which was significant between the lavender group with placebo and control group (P<0. 05). There was not a statistically significant difference between the control and placebo groups (P=0/443). Conclusion: The use of lavender aroma can reduce short-term pain of burn patients. Therefore, the use of lavender aroma is recommended in short term pain by medical staff and nurses.
