Abstract

Introduction: Understanding the relationship between JOB SATISFACTION and ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT would equip policy-makers with valuable information to predict and adopt proper strategies for improving organizational behavior and performance. This research intends to assess the relationship between JOB SATISFACTION and ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT among headquarter EMPLOYEES of zahedan university of medical Sciences.Materials and methods: A sample of 384 healthcare executives was selected randomly to participate in a cross-sectional, descriptivecorrelation research in 2007. Two distinct questionnaires were used for measuring JOB SATISFACTION and ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT. These include ‘Wysocki and Kromm’ and ‘Allen & Meyer’ questionnaires. Collected date were analyzed based on spearman’s correlation and multiple regression analysis. Results: The study generated a %78.9 response rate from 303 participants. Approximately, %57.8 of the participants were satisfied with their jobs and %70.3 of them were committed to their organization The largest and smallest satisfaction scores (mean) were related to satisfaction with coworkers and wages and salaries, respectively. Similarly, the highest and lowest levels of commitment were related to affective and normative dimensions. There was a significant correlation between JOB SATISFACTION and ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT (p<0.001).Conclusion: Almost half of the EMPLOYEES were not satisfied with their jobs and about one-third of the EMPLOYEES were not committed to their organization. A satisfaction-to-commitment relation, implies that JOB SATISFACTION especially satisfaction with the nature of work (work condition), coworker and salaries are antecedents of commitment to the organization. To increase JOB SATISFACTION and ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT, healthcare executives must address the factors which cause increased motivating behavior and collaborative effort.
