Abstract

Background: HYPERTENSION is a serious threat to health and a major cause of disability and death. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs based on BASNEF MODEL on SELF-CARE behaviors of women with HYPERTENSION.Methods: The present study was a Quasi-experimental study that carried out on 158 female patients with HYPERTENSION who used primary health centers was conducted. The Sampling method was multistage sampling. Each group of 79 female patients were randomly selected. Data collection tool was a questionnaire that its validity and reliability confirmed by experts and Cronbach's alpha coefficient 72.2%.Educational intervention for intervention group was performed and after 2 months the data was collected. After the post test, 2 training sessions held in the control group. Analysis was used to test the descriptive (mean, SD) and analytical (paired t-test, chi square, and regression). In this study, the significance level considered was %5.Results: The mean age of participants was 62.05 ± 13.13.in the intervention group, the mean score of attitude, subjective norms, enabling factors and SELF-CARE behavior 3.27, 4.35, 4.04, 3.51 respectively compared to before intervention scores increased and the difference was significant (P=0.001). The intervention group, before the intervention, the percentage of drug compliance and regular physical activity %64.6 and 43%, respectively. After the intervention respectively %83.5 and %65.8 increased. Enabling factors explained 28% of the variance in SELF-CARE behaviors HYPERTENSION.Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the design of the training program, based on BASNEF MODEL structures, the better results in promoting on SELF-CARE behaviors. After the post test, 2 training session held in the control group.
