Abstract

In order to investigate the relation between PARENTAL SOCIAL SUPPORT and CHILD REARING PRACTICES with the IDENTITY and MENTAL HEALTH of children, 137 subjects were selected by stratified random sampling method from among the undergraduate students of Clinical and General Psychology majors of the Islamic Azad University, Tabriz in the academic year 2010-2011. The measurement tools were Perceived Social Support – Family Scale, Parenting Style Questionnaire, Binson and Adams’ IDENTITY Questionnaire and General Health Questionnaire. The research method was of correlation type.The data were analyzed using Multivariate Regression, Pearson Correlation and ANOVA. The results showed that there is a significant relation between PARENTAL SOCIAL SUPPORT and authoritative parenting practices with the formation of the IDENTITY and MENTAL HEALTH of Children.
