Abstract

Innovation is a critical factor for enterprises in order to create value and sustainable competitive advantage in today’s changing and complex environment. An innovative initiative depends largely on the knowledge and skill of the staff.As a result, knowledge is a valuable asset for organizations. But in KNOWLEDGE SHARING process, companies are always faced with the risk of leakage. External KNOWLEDGE SHARING and KNOWLEDGE LEAKAGE are changed into a strategic dilemma while the organizations running innovative activities. In this article, we focus on the positive and negative effects of this phenomenon; to do this, the effect of external KNOWLEDGE SHARING on INNOVATIVE PERFORMANCE under the likelihood of deliberate or accidental leakage of vital specialized knowledge is empirically studied. For this purpose, the data from 82 companies located in Rasht Industrial City were gathered, and by using structural equation modeling technique and partial least square (PLS) approach were analyzed. The results showed that external KNOWLEDGE SHARING has positive effect on INNOVATIVE PERFORMANCE, but accidental KNOWLEDGE LEAKAGE has no moderating effect in this respect and the deliberate one has negative effect.
