Abstract

Aim: This study has done to show the relation between METACOGNITIVE STRATEGIES with AGGRESSION and COPING STYLES in Shiraz high school students.Methods: In this study, 360 individuals of Shiraz high school students between the ages 17-19 (240 females, 120 males) in 88-89 school year, were chosen by multi stage cluster sampling. Data collection was done with Metacognition Questionnaire-30 (MCQ-30) by Cartwright Hatton & wells (2004), AGGRESSION Questionnaire (AQ), and COPING STYLES Questionnaire (CSQ).Statistic data were analyzed by the use of Pearson correlation coefficient, t-test for independent groups and multiple regression analysis.Results: Analysis showed that between METACOGNITIVE STRATEGIES and AGGRESSION, as well as between METACOGNITIVE STRATEGIES and ways of coping with stress in P<0.01, there is a significant relationship. In addition, among males and females, AGGRESSION at level p<0.001 and using COPING STYLES at the level p<0.05 was a significant difference. It should be noted, cognitive confidence was a strong and significant predictor for AGGRESSION at p<0.001.Conclusion: The results showed that applying METACOGNITIVE STRATEGIES from high school youth have effects on behavioral disorders such as AGGRESSION, but it can help them use appropriate COPING STYLES in different situations.
