Abstract

MORNING REPORT is a traditional ritual within academic health care services. To compare the initial diagnosis of cases presented at MORNING REPORT with the final diagnosis reached at discharge from the hospital, and the factors influencing this process, a survey on MORNING REPORTs in one of the TEACHING HOSPITAL was conducted. This cross - sectional study was performed in the winter of 1997 among the 104 patients presented at the MORNING REPORTs 84% had a definite diagnosis at the time of discharge. In 67.8% of the initial diagnosis at the MORNING REPORT and the final diagnosis at the time of discharge were the same. The quality of presentation and the problems in the presentation of the patients were the only significant factors in this study. The experts believe that many parts of traditional educational medical interventions, such as MORNING REPORT, need to be "updated" to reflect the new realities of medical practice.
