Abstract

 Introduction: Health care services require nurses, who are critical thinkers, with high learning Skills, who can solve problems for which there are often no standard solutions. Therefore, a change in the way teachers teaches merits consideration. Frost argued that pbl equipped nurses with skills demanded by society.Methods: With above consideration, this research, that is a semi-experimental study, was Carried out to compare the two teaching method effects; Lecture and PBL;on learning and retaining in nursing students in Rasht.The sample consisted of 29 students that randomly were divided into two groups; control(14 students under lecture method)and case (15students under pblmethod). The data collection instrument was a questionaire which included 1)demographicData and 2)multiple choice questions for knowledge assessment.Results: The results of Paired T test showed that both strategies had positive effect on learning and retaining (first to forth hypotesis are accepted), but there was no significant difference between two strategy on learning and retaining, however there was more preference in lecture group on learning; and pbl group on retaining.
