Abstract

Background and Objectives: Nowadays, diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases with an increasing incidence and prevalence in Iran and worldwide. Attitudinal and psychological factors have major roles in self-care and controlling diabetes.The aim of this study was to assess the role of HEALTH LOCUS OF CONTROL on SELF-CARE BEHAVIORS in patients with type II diabetes.Materials and Methods: In this research, 60 individuals from Tabriz diabetes center of Sina hospital were selected through randomized sampling. Data were collected through two questionnaires including multidimensional HEALTH LOCUS OF CONTROL and SELF-CARE BEHAVIORS.Results: There was a significant positive relation between the SELF-CARE BEHAVIORS and internal HEALTH LOCUS OF CONTROL and a significant negative relation between the SELF-CARE BEHAVIORS and chance. The results also revealed that internal control more predicted the self-care behavior. In addition, there was no significant difference between male and female with regard to the SELF-CARE BEHAVIORS and HEALTH LOCUS OF CONTROL.Conclusion: According to the findings of this study, the SELF-CARE BEHAVIORS showed a significant relation with HEALTH LOCUS OF CONTROL. In other words, tendency to the internal HEALTH LOCUS OF CONTROL causes an increase in the SELF-CARE BEHAVIORS.
