The present study aimed at determining the effect of identity styles on undergraduates' depression, anxiety and stress through identity commitment. The sample consisted of 150 undergraduates were selected through cluster sampling. They completed Identity Style Inventory (lSI- 4) and Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS).Path analysis revealed that informational and normative styles had a positive direct effect and diffuse-avoidance style had a negative direct effect on identity commitment. The direct effect of identity commitment on depression and anxiety was negative and significant while on stress was positive and not significant. The indirect effect of informational style and normative style through identity commitment on depression was negative and significant and the indirect effect of diffuse-avoidance style on depression was positive and significant. The results also indicated that informational style and normative style had a negative indirect effect on anxiety through identity commitment and the indirect effect of diffuse-avoidance style on anxiety was positive and significant. None of the indirect effects of identity styles on stress was significant. The results generally confirmed the mediating role of identity commitment in the effect of identity styles on undergraduate's psychological health. Based on the results, providing students with university environments that allow more exploration, can result in more identity commitment and consequently reducing undergraduates' psychological impairments.

This methodology unlike the first of methodology, which would value to the quantity and positivism, further tried to reduce imperfections and faults incurred on the first methodology (which methodology was dominant until the 1970s), Such as: lack of ability in dealing to the human dimension and Quality of human life reality. Paradigmatic conflict between quantitative researchers (positive- sm and Post-positivism) and qualitative (Interpretation of Object- Oriented, critical realism, feminism and postmodemism) has led to a new paradigm for which in social sciences. The third of the methodology was formed accordingly, that can not only know the real world through a scientific method (positive or commentary), and so it pays to combine both the qualitative and quantitative methodologies. The reliability of the questionnaire was checked by Cronbach's alpha and split half reliability which proved the questionnaire to have appropriate level of reliability. The construct validity of this questionnaire was also investigated through two hypotheses. These hypotheses revealed the correlation between levels of religiousness as well as age on social interest. The results supported a meaningful and positive correlation to support the hypotheses. In addition, the conformity factor analysis of hidden variable of social interest was also supported an appropriate level of fitting with the four subscales of social interest. The results of this study shows the questionnaire provides an acceptable validity and reliability and can be used as an appropriate tool for measuring social interest.
