Introduction: University websites provide users with services and necessary information for professors, students, and other users. Considering the significant role of students for research development and progression, study intended to determine the satisfaction of students with the current website of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences. Methods: This was a descriptive study in which 6 websites from medical, dental, pharmacy, midwifery, nursing, health and paramedical colleges were compared in terms of being up to date. The participants were selected randomly and 650 students from Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences were questioned about their satisfaction with university websites. Website evaluations were done through content analysis. Their validity was confirmed by five informatics experts. Using SPSSwin22 software, Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0. 86 which showed a good reliability. To determine the satisfaction of both male and female students regarding websites' updating, T-test and independent variance analysis were applied. Results: On the whole, 28 information items were extracted from the six websites under study and were classified into six groups: in formation on professors, department performance, filed of study, educational contents, and research. Students' satisfaction with information about professors and the departments was moderate but their satisfaction was even less regarding the research information of every department (p <0. 05). Conclusion: Using standard indices in websites and updating them, increases the visibility of faculty members, the content of websites and also saves users' time. Therefore, senior executives need to take the necessary steps to improve the quality of such affairs.

Abstract:

Introduction: The educational system of any society is considered the basis for social, economic, political and cultural developments. On the other hand, given the important role of medical students as future therapists and doctors who play significant roles in the health system of any country, understanding the interrelationships between their motivational dimensions and personality characteristics seem necessary to create and promote educational programs. This study intended to do so among medical students at the basic sciences level at Iran University of Medical Sciences. Methods: This was a correlational-descriptive study. The statistical population consisted of all medical students at basic sciences level, from whom 412 were selected through hierarchical cluster sampling method. To collect data, Keller motivation and NEO personality questionnaires were used. Data was analyzed by SPSS software version 24, using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The findings showed that there is a negative and significant relationship between two motivational components of attention and relevance with the neuroticism feature of the personality variable. Also, all four components of motivation have a positive and significant relationship with openness to experience and externality and conscientiousness. Only, the components of attention, communication and trust from the variable of motivation had a positive and significant relationship with the variable of personality. Conclusion: Personality characteristics play a significant role in the creation, continuity and reduction of motivation among individuals; therefore, to increase personal motivation, especially to improve academic achievements, trainings should be in a way that personality characteristics of every individual person are considered.

Abstract:

Introduction: Faculty members are considered as basic resources of every university. Therefore, educational needs assessment in order to empower most faculty members is an inseparable part of educational planning. Methods: The study was conducted using a descriptive cross sectional method. The population consisted of university professors. About 65% professors participated. The reliability and validity of data collection tool, a self-made researcher questionnaire, was approved according to different studies. The participants were selected through census method and the results were analyzed using SPSS software. Results: The highest priority of the professors in this study included the realms of modern methods and techniques of teaching (68%), training tips and consultation (62%), methods of professional promotion (61%), academic regulations and rules (58/3%), applying computers in education (55%), evidence-based practice (47%), and student assessment methods (43%). Among different academic ranks (p=. / 043) or instructors of basic sciences and clinical sciences (p =. / 053), there was no statistically significant difference between the instructors' preference to attend the workshops virtually or in person and they mostly preferred to attend the workshops in person. Conclusion: Holding educational workshops, considering educational priorities, to empower professors functionally, seems necessary.

Abstract:

Introduction: Evidence suggests that despite the increasing inclination of nursing students to engage in work during studying, many of the issues associated with it remain unknown. The purpose of this study is to review of work during studying in nursing students. Methods: This study was conducted in 2017 with reviewing available literature and articles related to work during studying in nursing students and searching in databases such as Pubmed, Scopus, Proquest, Elsevier, Google Scholar, SID and IDML. English and Persian articles published in 1999 to 2017 were selected. Results: The work experience also influences the socialization of nursing students to enter the profession and it has benefits such as a relative decline in financial problems, increasing nursing skills, clinical experiences, self-esteem and independence, and reducing stress. Work during studying can have negative effects such as loss of concentration, fatigue, burnout, decreasing academic achievement and stress. Factors such as financial incentives, having welfare and proper social life, individual satisfaction, enhance experience and functional skills and having new friends can attract students to work. Conclusion: Work during studying and its positive and negative consequences are important issues in nursing education and can easily affect academic performance of students and even their physical and mental status. Positive effects are acceptable, but negative effects should be evaluated and eliminated as far as possible.

Abstract:

Introduction: The significance of problem-solving skills is obvious to anyone. As learners are about to start higher education, they should improve their learning skills and be able to solve their problems independently. Therefore, a study was conducted to evaluate problem solving and assertiveness skills of resident of plastic and reconstructive surgery in Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in 2015-2016. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. The population consisted of 46 Plastic surgery residents in Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. They worked at Fifteenth of Khordad and Shahid Modaress Hospitals. They were selected through census sampling. Heppner and Peterson standard questionnaires were used for problem solving and Rattus questionnaire for assertiveness skills. Finally, the data was analyzed using repeated measure ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficient using SPSS-22. Results: The results showed no significant difference of problem solving and assertiveness skills of residents of Plastic Surgery in Fifteenth of Khordad and Shahid Modaress Hospitals (P>0. 05). There was a relatively strong correlation between problem solving and assertiveness skills (r=-0/65). Conclusions: Through improving problem-solving skills among plastic surgery residents, assertiveness skills also expand. Thus, training programs should provide educational and life skill opportunities to equip learners with different abilities, including problem solving and assertiveness skills.

Abstract:

Introduction: Quality is defined based on the recipient's request. Students are the main members of the higher educational system. The aim of this study was to investigate the items related to the quality of services from the students’ point. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out in six faculties of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in 2015-2016. Five hundred and seven undergraduate students were enrolled by multi-stage random sampling method. The standard SERVQUAL questionnaire with 27 pairs of questions which evaluate the quality of educational servies, was distributed. SPSS version 24 was used for data analysis. Results: Overall, 303 individuals (60%) were female and another 60% were in basic science period. There was a negative gap in all items in all the faculties. The item related to "the appealing appearance of the employees" had the smallest gap (from-0. 6 to-0. 1). The greatest gaps were related to the following items: in the medical(-1. 7± 0. 1) and health (-1. 8± 0. 2) faculties, "preparing students for future jobs by providing necessary theoretical and practical trainings"; in the faculty of dentistry(-2. 0± 0. 1), "staff flexibility in specific conditions"; in the faculties of pharmacy(-1. 5± 0. 1) and nursing(-1. 2± 0. 1) "room and environmental facilities"; in the faculty of paramedicine(-1. 5± 0. 1), "possibility for students to comment on educational programs" and "appropriate time for conducting classes". Conclusion: Items with highest gaps were not similar among different faculties. Focusing on the identified items with the greatest negative gaps is highly recommended.
