Abstract:

Background and Objectives: The ascending course of diabetes has created many problems for human beings. Given the role of mindfulness in reducing these problems, the present study was conducted with the aim of determining the mediating role of resilience in the relationship between mindfulness and subjective well-being of diabetic patients. Materials and Methods: The present study was descriptive, based on structural equation modeling. From the statistical population, which included all active members of Bonab Diabetes Association in 2018, 500 people were selected as a sample by simple random method. Data was collected using the Bauer et al Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire, the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, and the Warwick Edinburgh Subjective Well-being Questionnaire and analyzed by Pearson's correlation coefficient and structural equation modeling. Results: Mindfulness had a positive correlation with the Subjective well-being (r=0. 662, p<0. 001), and resilience (r=0. 662, p<0. 001). Resilience had also a positive correlation with Subjective well-being (r=0. 772, p<0. 001). The structural equation modeling analysis showed that direct paths from mindfulness to subjective well-being (β =0. 20, p<0. 001), mindfulness to resilience (β =0. 76, p<0. 001) and resilience to subjective well-being (β = 0. 66, p<0. 001) were statistically significant. Mindfulness also positively predicted subjective well-being through resilience (β =0. 51, p<0. 001). Conclusion: Mindfulness can predict subjective well-being positively and meaningfully, both directly and through the medium of resilience. It seems that paying attention to the model of mindfulness, resilience and subjective well-being will be useful in the treatment program and counseling of diabetic patients.

Background and Objectives: Breast cancer survivors are in danger of elevated insulin resistance and hyperglycemia due to chemotherapy and surgery side effects and inactivity. Exercise can improve glucose homeostasis. This study aimed to assess the effect of twelve weeks concurrent Yoga and Pilates training on glucose homeostasis and insulin resistance in breast cancer survivors. Materials and Methods: This randomized clinical trial was performed on 24 breast cancer survivors in Rasht, Iran, in 2020. The participants were randomly devided into control or case groups. The case group (n=13) underwent 12 weeks of concurrent Yoga and Pilates exercise training, 3 sessions per week. The control group (n=11) did their routine daily activities. Weight, body mass index (BMI), fasting blood sugar (FBS), glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C) and insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) were measured before and after 12 weeks of exercise in either groups. Data was analyzed using multivariate covariance test and non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test. Results: Twelve-week concurrent exercise caused significant decrease in weight (p=0. 002), BMI (p=0. 002) and HbA1C (p=0. 050). However, there was no significant effect on FBS or HOMA-IR (p>0. 05). Conclusion: According to the results of the current study which showed the positive effect of this exercise program on weight control and glucose homeostasis in breast cancer survivors, concurrent Yoga and Pilates training can probably be a good exercise program in these patients.

Background and Objectives: Globally tobacco use is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality. Starting to smoke during adolescence has its own risks. The aim of this study was to determine the status of tobacco use and its relationship with second-hand smoke, access and advertising in adolescents of Qom in 2019. Materials and Methods: The present descriptive study was performed on 823 students in the first and second grades of secondary school in Qom. The data collection tool was the Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) questionnaire in the form of self-report. Sampling was performed by multi-stage random clustering. Data were analyzed using chisquare test. Results: The prevalence of tobacco use was 22. 1% (177 cases). The highest exposure to second-hand smoke was 52. 9% (430 cases) for "exposure to second-hand smoke in public". Of all current tobacco users, 64. 8% (35 cases) had access to tobacco through stores and shops. Overall, 34. 3% (278 cases) of students were exposed to tobacco advertisements in tobacco shops and streets. The chi-square test showed a significant relationship between educational level, gender, amount of pocket money, exposure to second-hand smoke and advertisements with smoking (p<0. 05). Conclusion: Based on the results of the present study, it is recommended to implement policies and strategies to reduce second-hand smoke exposure, access and exposure to advertisements in adolescents.

Abstract:

Background and Objectives: Muscles are known as organs which can generate pain in human body. Among different types of muscle pain, myofascial trigger points (MTPs) are very common. The aim of this study was comparing the effect of shockwave therapy (SWT) and low level laser therapy (LLLT) on the treatment of the MTPs of trapezius muscles. Materials and Methods: This randomized clinical trial was performed in Fatemieh physiotherapy clinic of Rafsanjan, Iran, in 2019. One hundred and eleven patients conflicted to MTPs of trapezius muscles were randomly assigned into three equal groups of 37. Treatment methods were included SWT, LLLT and conventional physiotherapy (CP) during 10 sessions. Intensity of local pain, tense band of the muscle, radicular pain and limitation of movements were assessed in 1 st th, 10 and 10 days after treatment. Data was analyzed using two-way repeated measures ANOVA followed by Tukey's post hoc test and chi-square test. Results: The findings of this study showed that SWT during 10 sessions was more effective than LLLT and CT in relief of intensity of local pain of the MTPs (p<0. 001). Also, in the 10 th session, chi-square test showed that SWT in comparison with LLLT and CT can be more effective in removing tense band of the muscle, improving movements and reducing radicular pain (p<0. 001). Conclusion: According to this study, during 10 sessions, SWT can be effective in the relief of local pain of MTPs, radicular pain, improving movements and removing muscle tense band.

Abstract:

Suicide issue and media reports about people who have died by suicide can affect vulnerable people. Portraying sensationalism of suicide in the media, similar to news stories, can lead to increase of suicide due to imitation. Evidence also suggests that way of reporting suicide related news plays a role in suicide rate. The first reflecting guide of the suicide news in the media was published in 1999 by the World Health Organization and in Iran for the first time by the Office of Mental Health at the Ministry of Health and Medical Education in 2007. The present study begins with two topics: "Young Werther Effect", the effect of suicide-related news on increasing suicide attempts (Copycat Suicide Behavior) and "Papageno effect", the effect of the media on the prevention or reduction of suicide attempts. Then the history of the role of guidelines in preventing and reducing suicide cases is investigated and in the regard to the history of public media, the importance of media, social media and its typesis explained. In the following, the history of the guidelines prepared for the media in regard to publishing contents and the latest guidelines prepared by the World Health Organization in 2019 for filmmakers and theater is reviewed. Finally, The Media Guidelines on the Reporting of Suicide by Seyed Mehdi Hassanzadeh et al, in collaboration with the Office of Mental Health, Social Affairs and Prevention of Addiction was revised. All recommendations in this regard are intended as a guide for all relevant stakeholders, including journalists, editors, producers, journalism coaches, researchers, policymakers, and mental health professionals, on social media platforms.

Abstract:

Doxorubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic used for the treatment of a wide range of cancers. But unfortunately, due to its accumulation within healthy tissues, DOX treatment results in side effects of cellular toxicity. DOX-induced cellular toxicity occurs as a result of increasing oxidative damage, resulting in apoptosis and cell death. There is currently no standard of care practice to prevent DOX-induced toxicity to off-target organs. Therefore, scientists and researchers are seeking to further development and improvement of the treatment for this deadly disease. Meanwhile, the combination of exercise and chemotherapy is a promising method for efficiency and tolerance and reduction of side effects and drug resistance. Physical activities stimulate numerous beneficial biochemical adaptations resulting in a healthy phenotype in vulnerable tissues, without affecting the antineoplastic properties of DOX. Therefore, determining the appropriate exercise regimen is important to prescribe those cancer patients receiving DOX therapy because the patient's physical and medical conditions must be considered. The present review study investigates the cytotoxic effects of DOX on the heart, liver, kidney and lungs, discussing the benefits of the role of regular physical activity and potential mechanisms dealing with the positive effects of exercise on each system.

Abstract:

Background and Objectives: Tooth extraction is one of the ways to treat dental diseases. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of different molar tooth extraction patterns on short-term and middle-term memory in rats. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 45 male Wistar rats were divided into three groups: control group (C) without pulling, pulling group 1 (E1) by pulling bilateral maxillary molars, and pulling group 2 (E2) by pulling the left maxillary and right mandibular molars. The Maurice Watermase test was performed to assess spatial memory. Tukey's test was used to analyze the data. Results: In short-term memory tests, the number of visits to the target area was significantly lower in group E1 than in group C (p=0. 003). In group E2, the time spent in the target area and the distance traveled in the target area was longer than group E1. Conclusion: This study explained that the molar teeth extraction may impair the memory ability.
