Pages

  84-94

Abstract

Aim this study was to identify importance between domains of SELF-EFFICACY (social, educational-physical and emotional) and DEPRESSION in different stages of ADOLESCENCE. Method is descriptive and correlation and participants were 946 students (471 girls and 475 boys) in Tehran high schools and precollege in 2002-2005 year. The subjects were selected randomly multiphasic cluster. Child DEPRESSION Inventory (CDI) (Kovacs, 1992), Children Self- Efficacy Questionnaire (Muris, 2002), Physical SELF-EFFICACY Questionnaire (Ryckman, et al. 1.982) were used. Data were analyzed by liner Regression and correlation. Findings showed there is a negative correlation between General, Social, Educational, Physical and Emotional SELF-EFFICACY with DEPRESSION. In addition, physical SELF-EFFICACY has an impact on DEPRESSION in males in early, middle and late ADOLESCENCE and early, middle stage of female adolescents. Educational SELF-EFFICACY has an impact on DEPRESSION in all stages of adolescents. Social SELF-EFFICACY does not have an impact on DEPRESSION in ADOLESCENCE and emotional SELF-EFFICACY has impact on DEPRESSION in the middle stage of female ADOLESCENCEs. Conclusion: Low SELF-EFFICACY correlated with high DEPRESSION and high SELF-EFFICACY correlated with low DEPRESSION in ADOLESCENCE. Educational SELF-EFFICACY showed the highest correlation with DEPRESSION. Physical and educational SELF-EFFICACY was the best predictors for DEPRESSION in all stare ADOLESCENCE. Social SELF-EFFICACY was least wedictive and emotional SELF-EFFICACY was the only predictor of DEPRESSION in females at the late ADOLESCENCE.
