Abstract

 An important concern of nursing pratice and education is the difficulty new graduates are faced with when they start working in clinical settings after graduation. To solve this problem, selfregulated LEARNING strategies are suggested to enhance metacognitive CRITICAL THINKING abilities in learners.METACOGNITION is a kind of self-communication about task demands and cognitive strategies required before, during, and after performing a task.METACOGNITION supports reflective thinking in complicated situations and in confusing situations increases the person's self-confidence, expand his knowledge base and provides the conditions for the development of decision-making ability.Self-regulation strategy also enhances METACOGNITION, motivation, and output LEARNING behavior in learners. As a whole, SELF-REGULATION practice results in expanding nursing graduates points of view, reducing their internal conflicts and reinforcing their effectiveness and decision-making abilities in complicated clinical settings. In order to examine METACOGNITION developed through CRITICAL THINKING and self-regulated strategies, the following analyses are used: verbal protocol analysis, cognitive operator analysis and script analysis.
