Abstract

Background and Aim: Spiritual Intelligence as a behavior with compassion, wisdom and internal and external pacification is the key element in encountering with stressful challenges in Intensive Care Units (ICU) wherein Nurses can use it for managing critical situations in the best way. This research has been done for assessing the effectiveness of Training on Spiritual Intelligence and its components in Nurses who work in ICU. Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study with two groups and pretest-posttest was done on 82 Nurses (40 Nurses in the experimental group and 42 in the control group). Sampling was conducted in a convenience method by considering matching and ratio which was proportional with the total number of Nurses in hospitals affiliated with Lorestan University of Medical Sciences. King Spiritual Intelligence Scale which is validated and the reliable tool, was used for data gathering. Data collecting was accomplished before, immediately and one month after the study. Eight Training sessions were held for the experimental group in a workshop method. Data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics by SPSS software version 15. Results: The findings revealed that most samples in two groups were lower than 40 years, female, with work experiences of 5-14 years, bachelor degree and employed. Covariance analysis (by adjusting the effect of the values of the base of Spiritual Intelligence) showed that the main effect of the intervention on the mean scores of Spiritual Intelligence was significant (p<0. 05), so that the mean scores of Spiritual Intelligence in the experimental group reached from 53. 37 before the study to 78. 50 after study. Also, Covariance analysis showed that the effect of the intervention on components of Spiritual Intelligence was significant too (p<0. 05) and Training increased the mean score of these components in the experimental group. Conclusion: According to the results, the Nurses had a moderate level of Spiritual Intelligence but after Training in a workshop method, their Spiritual Intelligence increased. So using a Training protocol for improving the ability of Spiritual Intelligence in Nurses can progress them in adapting with workplace stress and individual life which causes an upsurge in quality care.
