Abstract

Introduction: SHARK CARTILAGE has antiangiogenic and immunostimulatory activity, which inhibits tumor growth. In this study we evaluated the effect of SHARK CARTILAGE on IFNΓ production from mononuclear cells in BREAST CANCER patients. Materials and methods: BREAST CANCER patients referred to Cancer Institute used SHARK CARTILAGE capsules (test group) and the control group used starch capsules besides hormone therapy according to the protocol within a regulated program. Blood sampling was performed before and after treatment. After isolating and culturing PBMCs, the supematant was collected. Amount of IFNΓ was measured by ELISA in supernatant of cell culture.Result: Results indicated that quantities of this cytokine increased significantly in test group after treatment, but no significant difference in IFNΓ was found in the control group compared to before treatment.Discussion: Hence it seems that SHARK CARTILAGE could help IFNΓ production which is important in tumor regression in BREAST CANCER patients. Thus we propose that it could be a good candidate for cancer treatment along with conventional medicine.
