Abstract

 This cross-sectional study is intended to describe the relationship between sonographic measurement of abdominal circumference (CA) and biparietal diameter (BPD) and the estimation of FETAL WEIGHT. 200 women, meeting the study criteria, in their 24-40 weeks of gestational age composed the study subjects; all of them had history of regular menses, known LMP , Singleton and normal sonographic gestation, with no maternal diseases affecting fetal growth and no history of OCP three months prior to the study. FETAL WEIGHT was calculated by Shephard Formula taking BPD and AC into consideration, the range being 515-3207 grams; the mean value was 1664.11 . T-test was used to compare the mean with the findings of Headlock , Williams and Babson; it was observed that the study mean was less than those of the previous studies. Similarly, AC , with a range of 179-350 mm , was smaller than those found in the aforementioned studies. AC highly correlates with gestational age. Therefore, it seems that this pilot study can pave the ground for a more comprehensive and multi-regional study to determine a reference table for the Iranian community.
