Today with complicated organizations, rapid changes, increasing globalization, developments in information and communication technology such as development of social networks, new media and educational innovations, necessity of reviewing the information and knowledge management method is seriously felt. The result of applying the old organizational structure with new method of technology will be high expenses of organization. Universities have a major role in education and they are considered as basis of using procedures and solutions which are based on knowledge management. In analyzing the structure of the responsibility of universities, its minor and major objective is based on knowledge management and comprises the discovery, acquisition and innovation. Transferring the knowledge is via teaching in universities and knowledge management can be presented like knowledge application in human issues. Police University as a higher education institution transfer new police knowledge and police organization as a social institution which protect from life and property of people has various tasks and responsibilities. Accomplishing each of these tasks needs to make realistic decisions and it will be achieved via information and knowledge management. Knowledge management can help the innovative decisions of police organization with simplifications, improvement of participation process, distribution, innovation, collection and understanding the knowledge and will change it from a bureaucratic organization to a knowledge oriented, innovative and up to date one.This study has been done by library method. It investigates the concept of knowledge management, models, restrictions, facilities and challenges and at the end recommends some suggestion to apply knowledge management in police force.
