Background: Poisoning is a common cause of referring to poisoning emergencies. The aim of this study was to evaluate the epidemiologic and laboratory findings of household product-poisoned patients. Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive-analytical study that was conducted retrospectively. The demographic and laboratory findings of the poisoned patients who were hospitalized in the poisoned emergency department of Khurshid Hospital in Isfahan from March 2016 to March 2020 were collected using the census method. Data analysis was performed using one-way analysis of variance, Chi-square and T-test. Findings: This study analyzed 281 cases of household product-poisoned patients. The mean ± SD age of the patients was 32.95 ± 17.14 (1-83) of whom 48% were men (female to male ratio = 1.08). The most and least common cause of poisoning was pesticide (37.3%) and mercury (0.4%) compounds, respectively. The mean duration of hospitalization was 25.02 hours. The mortality rate was 2 (0.7%) which was due to pesticide poisoning. Regarding the trend of Poisoning, we observed 233% increase in 2019 compared to 2016 and 64% decrease in 2020 compared to 2019. Conclusion: In this study, pesticides and corrosive agents were the most common cause of poisoning. Women were more affected than men. It highlights the importance of emotional and psychological support and educating the correct methods of storing and consuming household chemical products.

Background: Obesity is associated with increase the risk of metabolic diseases including type 2 diabetes. On the other hand, aerobic exercise training can play a positive role in preventing metabolic diseases. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of 8 weeks of aerobic exercise training on plasma nesfatin-1, insulin, and glucose and insulin-resistance in obese women. Methods: The present study was a Semi-experimental-study. Twenty-tow obese women (age 25 ± 2 years and body mass index 30 ± 3.1) were randomly selected from obese women referred to Kerman clubs and randomly assigned to experimental (n = 11) and control (n = 11) groups. Aerobic exercise was including 30 minutes of running based on 50-70% of target heart rate for 8 weeks and 3 days a week performed by the experimental group. The desired variables were measured before and after the exercise protocol. The ANCOVA test was used to analyze the data.Findings: A non-significant-difference was observed in the weight and BMI at the end of the research. Also this study showed no significant difference between the experimental and control groups in Nesfatin-1. The levels of insulin, glucose and insulin-resistance were significantly lower in the experimental group compared to the control. In addition, aerobic exercise decreased body fat percentage and increased Vo2max in the experimental group compared to the control. Conclusion: According to the results, it is suggested that obese women use aerobic exercises in order to improve their body fat percentage, aerobic capacity and indicators related to diabetes.

Abstract:

Background: The cuboid or square shaped wrist has been suggested in the previous studies as a predisposing factor for CTS. The aim of this study was to compare the conduction velocity and cross-sectional area of the median nerve in the wrist of healthy individuals with and without a cuboid wrist in ultrasonographic and electrodiagnostic studies. Methods: In a analytic cross-sectional study, the volunteers at the beginning of the study, antero-posterior and medio-lateral diameters of their wrists were measured by calipers and those with a wrist-ratio greater than or equal to0.7were considered as a case group and individuals with lesser were considered as a control group. Then, the cross-sectional area of the median nerve at the entrance of the carpal tunnel was assessed by ultrasound and the conduction velocity of the nerve was assessed by electrodiagnostic tests in both groups.Findings: In this study, 80 healthy hands were evaluated in two groups with and without cuboid wrist. The mean nerve conduction velocity in the median nerve was 47.15 m/s in individuals with a cuboid wrist and 51.93m/s in healthy individuals. The mean cross-sectional area of the median nerve in individuals with a cuboid wrist and in the control group was 10.6mm and 8.2mm, respectively. Conclusion: The present study showed that the mean cross-sectional area of the median nerve in healthy individuals with a cuboid wrist is higher and the use of ultrasound in the diagnosis of CTS in these individuals may be associated with a false positive result. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the wrist-ratio and further evaluations in these people.
